Lawn care in Grand Prairie, Texas centers around managing clay-heavy soils and warm-season grasses. The average Grand Prairie lawn spans 3,481 square feet and grows best with bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, or St. Augustinegrass - all suited to the Texas heat.

The soil makeup affects how you care for your Grand Prairie lawn:

    • Clay-dominant soil (55%) means slower water drainage and nutrient absorption
    • Slightly alkaline pH of 7.7 affects how your grass takes up nutrients
    • Good organic matter levels near 4% help feed your lawn naturally

What this means for your lawn care routine:

    1. Test your soil to check nutrient levels
    2. Water deeply but less often to work with clay soil
    3. Choose fertilizers that match your soil's needs
    4. Mow at proper height to help grass roots grow strong
    5. Time your fertilizer applications during active growth periods

I am new to the program but my lawn is looking better. The hot summers in Texas are hard on lawns but mine looks better than it has in two years.

    During the summer, the grass

During the summer, the grass was much greener than it has ever been. And started filling it. Right now we're battling some weeds, that are white flowers. Other than that no complaints.

    St. Augustine crisis

Due to the stress of a very hot summer and an early hard freeze, my St. Augustine grass was very thin with large patches of dead grass. I was late in starting the program (May), but used the Kickstart and later the Microboost, as well as the Dandelion Doom for weeds, and it is recovering nicely. I think by mid summer it will be back to the nice thick lawn I had before it died.

      Grand Prairie, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services in Grand Prairie typically cost $45-75 per visit. Sunday's custom lawn plans start at $55 per season and include fertilizer, soil testing, and expert support. Plans are customizable with options for weed control, grass seed, and pest control, delivered in multiple shipments throughout your growing season.

Early spring is the ideal time to start lawn care in Grand Prairie, TX. Begin fertilizing in March when soil temperatures reach 55°F and grass starts actively growing. For warm-season grasses common in Grand Prairie like Bermuda and St. Augustine, maintain a regular care schedule through September.

When choosing lawn care in Grand Prairie, consider your lawn's specific needs, budget and time commitment. Key factors include: grass type (likely Bermuda or St. Augustine), yard size, problem areas (weeds, bare spots), and desired maintenance level. Compare service options, application schedules and pricing between DIY and professional approaches.

The 1/3 rule means never cut more than one-third of the grass blade length in a single mowing. This maintains grass health by preventing shock and stress. For example, if your grass is 3 inches tall, don't cut more than 1 inch off at a time.

The most cost-effective lawn maintenance in Grand Prairie includes:

      • Mow regularly at proper height
      • Water deeply but infrequently (1-1.5 inches per week)
      • Apply fertilizer at key growth times
      • Spot treat weeds
      • Overseed bare patches

DIY maintenance with a customized plan and products is typically cheaper than recurring professional services.

In Grand Prairie, professional mowing services typically charge $35-55 per cut for an average 1/4 acre lawn. Pricing varies based on yard size, terrain, and service frequency. Weekly mowing during peak growing season (March-October) and bi-weekly in slower periods is recommended for most lawns.

The best time to lay sod in Grand Prairie is mid-spring (March-April) or early fall (September-October) when temperatures are mild. Spring installation gives the grass time to establish before summer heat, while fall planting allows roots to develop before winter dormancy. Avoid laying sod during peak summer heat.

To remove monkey grass (Liriope), you'll need to dig out the entire root system as it spreads through underground rhizomes. Use a shovel to remove the complete plant and roots. For spot treatment of individual plants, Sunday's Weed Warrior can help control regrowth in lawn areas.
