It's been a good year here rebuilding my lawn. Pics are from April and July. Sunday is much easier than pellet spreaders, and I'm happy with the results.

    Lawn by the sea—

Our lawn soil is extremely sandy (approximately 300 yards from the Atlantic Ocean). The previous owners of the house had left the irrigation off for years and our grass was weedy and mostly dead when we moved in. It's difficult to grow grass living so close to the ocean, but Sundays plan and daily watering have turned our lawn around. Still work to do, but looking better.

      Wilmington, North Carolina FAQs

Professional lawn care services in Wilmington, NC typically cost $45-75 per visit or $150-200 monthly. Sunday's custom lawn plans start at $55 per season and include fertilizer, soil testing, and expert support. Additional options for weed control, seeding and pest treatments are available based on your lawn's needs.

For Wilmington's hot, humid climate, warm-season grasses work best. Centipede grass is most common and low-maintenance. St. Augustine and Zoysia also perform well, offering good shade and drought tolerance. Bermuda grass thrives in full sun areas and provides excellent wear resistance.

When choosing lawn care in Wilmington, consider:

      1. Your lawn's specific needs (size, grass type, problem areas)
      2. Service frequency needed
      3. Your budget and time commitment
      4. Whether you prefer DIY or professional service
      5. The provider's approach to environmental impact and pet safety
      6. Local expertise and climate knowledge

A comprehensive lawn care program in Wilmington, NC typically includes:

      • Regular fertilization (4-6 times per year)
      • Weed control and prevention
      • Mowing every 1-2 weeks during growing season (March-November)
      • Soil testing and pH balancing
      • Disease and pest management
      • Core aeration in spring or fall
      • Optional services like overseeding and irrigation maintenance

For warm-season grasses in Wilmington, mow every 5-7 days during peak growing season (April-September) and every 10-14 days during slower growth periods. Keep grass height between 2-3 inches and never remove more than 1/3 of the blade length in a single mowing.

The 1/3 rule states you should never cut off more than one-third of the grass blade length in a single mowing. This prevents stress on the grass, promotes deeper root growth, and maintains a healthier lawn. Cutting too much at once can weaken or damage the grass.

In North Carolina, a license is required for commercial lawn care services that apply pesticides or fertilizers. However, homeowners do not need a license to maintain their own lawns. Sunday's DIY lawn care plans allow you to care for your lawn without licensing requirements.

Lawn care focuses on routine maintenance like mowing, fertilizing, and weed control to keep grass healthy. Landscaping involves designing and installing elements like plants, trees, hardscapes, and outdoor living spaces to enhance your property's appearance and function. Think of lawn care as grass health and landscaping as outdoor design.
