Green and Lush - Even in the Heat of Summer

My lawn was nice when we moved into our house, but after water restrictions, it became brown and ugly. I received a reference on Sunday from my new Sprinkler System, Rachio, and I checked them out. My lawn is decent size at about 1/2 an acre. My water bill was high running as much as $500 a month in the summer. I bought the Sunday system, and started using it immediately. The improvement was impressive. Even during water restrictions and high heat my lawn stayed green. With temperatures in the 1006#x27;s and watering only 2 days a week, I still had a gorgeous lawn. Plus, my water bill is down. I highly recommend it!

    Existing Lawn

We have had two weeks of extreme heat, with indexes over 100, so the much of the lawn has gone dormant. We are watering but we have not had any appreciable rain, trying to keep up, have fertilized dust have not used your heat stress solution and afraid to put anything on it until we get cooler nights and days and some rain, before the heat and lack of rain the lawn was the best it has ever been and will continue to use the products.

      Midlothian, Virginia FAQs

Traditional lawn care services in Midlothian, VA typically cost $45-75 per visit or $800-1200 annually. Sunday's custom lawn plans start at $55 per season, with multiple scheduled deliveries of fertilizer, optional weed control, grass seed, and pest control products - offering significant savings compared to traditional services.

The best time to aerate cool-season lawns in Midlothian, VA is early fall (September to early October) when grass is in its peak growing period. Spring (March to April) is also acceptable but less ideal. Aerate when soil is moist but not waterlogged, typically a day after rainfall or irrigation.

For cool-season grasses in Midlothian, VA, mow every 5-7 days during peak growing seasons (spring and fall) and every 7-10 days in summer. Keep grass height between 2.5-3.5 inches and never remove more than 1/3 of the blade length in a single mowing.

Here are key eco-friendly lawn care practices for Midlothian, VA:

      • Water deeply but infrequently, ideally 1 inch per week in early morning
      • Mow high at 3-3.5 inches to promote deeper roots and shade soil
      • Leave grass clippings to naturally fertilize
      • Use targeted fertilizer applications based on soil needs
      • Control weeds through spot-treatment rather than blanket applications
      • Reduce chemical use by maintaining thick, healthy turf

These practices promote resilient lawns while minimizing environmental impact.

Here are essential maintenance steps for a healthy lawn in Midlothian, VA:

      • Test soil to determine nutrient needs
      • Apply fertilizer in early spring, late spring, early fall and late fall
      • Water deeply 1-2 times per week, about 1 inch total
      • Maintain proper mowing height of 3-3.5 inches
      • Overseed thin areas in early fall
      • Address weeds through spot-treatment
      • Core aerate compacted soil in fall

Focus on consistent care and monitoring while using products formulated without harsh chemicals. A customized lawn plan helps ensure you're applying the right nutrients at the right time for your specific lawn conditions.

The 1/3 rule means never cut off more than one-third of the grass blade length in a single mowing. This prevents stress on the grass and promotes healthier growth. For example, if your grass is 3 inches tall, don't cut off more than 1 inch.

In Midlothian, VA, cool-season grass growth significantly slows when soil temperatures consistently drop below 50°F, typically in late November or early December. While grass doesn't completely stop growing, it enters dormancy until soil temperatures warm again in early spring, usually March.

When choosing lawn care in Midlothian, VA, consider these key factors:

      1. Evaluate your lawn needs and budget
      2. Compare service options and pricing
      3. Check company credentials and reviews
      4. Understand the service schedule and what's included

Sunday offers customized plans starting at $55 with fertilizer, optional weed control, and expert support - delivering products when your lawn needs them most.
