    1. Add organic matter to improve sandy soil
    2. Apply nutrients based on soil test results
    3. Adjust watering schedule for quick-draining sandy soil
    4. Choose lawn care products that work with your soil type

The high sand content means Tallahassee lawns need more frequent watering and feeding compared to clay soils. Check out our lawn care guides for tips on mowing height and weed control suited to Florida's growing conditions. Create your own lawn plan based on your yard's specific needs.

All I can say is "WOW"

My Florida lawn in Tallahassee looked horrible over the past 4 years. Thought it was a fungal problem, thought it may be from all the trees, thought it was from lack of watering, thought it may be from the bugs. I spent tons of time, money, energy/effort to only find that my lawn was getting worse every spring. I turned to the "professional" service only to find that it was way too expensive. Needless to say, Sunday has turned my lawn around in just one spring/summer. It is green, filling in the bare spots, has to be mowed more frequently. It is a 360 degree turn from where it was last year. And, you cannot beat the price nor application process.

      Tallahassee, Florida FAQs

The average cost of professional lawn care services in Tallahassee ranges from $45-75 per visit for a standard quarter-acre lot. Sunday's custom lawn plans start at $55 per season and include fertilizer, soil testing, and expert support - making it a more affordable option compared to traditional lawn services.

For established lawns in Tallahassee, water 2-3 times per week during growing season, applying 1/2 to 3/4 inch of water per session. Water early morning between 4-10am to reduce evaporation. During summer heat, you may need to water more frequently. Reduce watering during dormant winter months.

The best time to fertilize lawns in Tallahassee is early spring (March-April) when grass begins active growth, followed by applications in early summer (May-June) and early fall (September-October). Avoid fertilizing during peak summer heat or winter dormancy. Space applications 6-8 weeks apart during growing season.

      For a healthy Tallahassee lawn:

      • Mow St. Augustine or Centipede grass at 3-4 inches high
      • Never remove more than 1/3 of grass blade length when mowing
      • Keep mower blades sharp
      • Leave grass clippings on lawn to recycle nutrients
      • Address weeds promptly through spot treatment
      • Test soil annually to monitor nutrient needs

Common lawn pests in Tallahassee include:

      • Chinch bugs (damage St. Augustine grass)
      • Mole crickets (tunnel through soil, damage roots)
      • Sod webworms (chew grass blades)
      • Fire ants (create mounds, sting)
      • Armyworms (feed on grass blades)
      • Grubs (damage grass roots)

These pests are most active during warm months. Watch for brown patches, tunneling, or visible insect activity.

For Tallahassee lawns, St. Augustine and Centipede grass are best suited to the climate. St. Augustine offers dense coverage and good shade tolerance, while Centipede requires less maintenance and thrives in acidic soils. Both grasses handle heat well and are adapted to Florida's sandy soils.

The 1/3 rule means never cut off more than one-third of the grass blade length in a single mowing. This promotes healthier grass by preventing stress and allowing proper photosynthesis. Cutting too much at once can weaken the grass and make it more vulnerable to problems.

Professional lawn care services in Tallahassee typically cost $45-75 per visit for a quarter-acre lot. Sunday's custom lawn plans offer a more affordable option starting at $55 per season, including fertilizer, soil testing, expert support, and scheduled product deliveries throughout your growing season.
