How to apply Sunday weed control step by step
We recommend managing weeds in the Spring and Fall, then following up with patching and overseeding (if applicable) your lawn. With a thick enough lawn, weeds will be a problem of the past.
Use Sunday weed control product instructions and follow our most important tips below for getting the most out of Sunday herbicides:
- Try to apply on a sunny day While not mandatory, sunshine will improve the efficacy and speed of our herbicides. To oversimplify, our herbicides make weeds more vulnerable to stress caused by solar radiation. With sunshine unfiltered by clouds, our herbicides will work even better. A rainfall within 3 hours after application can make the herbicides ineffective. There should be enough time for the leaves to dry at minimum before watering or rain. Optimal temperatures for application are between 50F to 85F.
- Apply when the weeds look healthy As odd as it sounds, our herbicides (and almost all herbicides) work better on healthy weeds. When weeds are stressed or injured, they release hormones to recover. These hormones make herbicides less effective. Hormones are also released if weeds are mowed; we recommend not applying on the same day you mow.
- Apply the leaves liberally Our herbicides just need to make contact with the leaves to work; trying to apply to the roots won't be effective. For best results, you want the leaves soaked, but not to the point where the herbicides is dripping off the leaves. Be sure to spray the weeds at a close distance.
- Know the age of the weed It's fine if you don't know the exact age of the weed, as this can be estimated just by its size. The larger the weed, the older it is. Older and established weeds will likely require more applications. For older weeds, we recommend doing multiple applications on the same day; just let the leaves dry out in-between applications. For large rooted weeds, splitting the top before application will lead to greater results.
Note: Sunday weed control products should be effective on labeled weeds, unless they are woody, are several years old, or have modified stems (like bulbs, tubers, rhizomes, etc.).
