How to choose the best grass seed from soil test results

Your climate zone is the biggest factor when picking grass seed, and Sunday's grass seed mixes are built around exactly that.

Northern US?
You want a cool-season grass.

Southern US?
Warm-season grass is your option.

Determining the region gets you most of the way there:
  • Your soil test matters a lot for feeding your lawn, but it won't change which grass type fits your yard.
  • Temperature, sunlight, water, and location are what really determine the right pick.

Once you know your climate, the rest gets easier:

  • Cool-season lawns can benefit from mixing grass species, so you can cover shade or handle heavier foot traffic depending on your yard.
  • Warm-season lawns do best sticking to a single grass type.

Not sure which side of the warm-season vs cool-season grasses line you're on?

Our Seed Finder Tool will point you in the right direction. And if you want a person to talk it through, our Yard Advisors are happy to help.
