Lawn care for Aurora, Illinois
| Average lawn size | 4,542 sq ft (based on about 100 local soil tests) |
| Dominant grass type | Cool-season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and fescue |
| Typical soil pH | 7.3 (slightly alkaline) |
| Organic matter | 7.8% |
| Soil composition | 16% sand, 66% silt, 18% clay (silt loam) |
| Key nutrients | Potassium 235 ppm, phosphorus 46 ppm, calcium 2,554 ppm |
Aurora lawns come with a few quirks worth knowing. Your soil is rich in organic matter and nutrients (a genuine head start), but that slightly alkaline pH and silty texture can trip you up if you're not paying attention.
Why your silt loam loves a light touch
That silty soil holds moisture well, which is great until it isn't. Overwatering is the classic Aurora mistake, and it invites fungus faster than you'd think. Water deeply but less often, and let the top inch dry between drinks. Your cool-season grasses will thank you come August. For more seasonal tips, check out our lawn guides.

Hot, Rainless Summer
We didn’t get much rain during the Summer months in the Chicagoland area. Added this to the lawn to help it survive the heat and it worked great. Everyone else on the block had a dry crispy lawn and ours stayed green and healthy.

Glad to be in my third full year of using Sunday. I can tell the soil is improving based on all the worms aerating and stronger grass through hot days. Thanks for helping me improve my lawn!

Sunday on my side
I’ve been using Sunday for two years at our new house. The yard has been a struggle because it was not taken care of well previously. It has some erosion issues we need to take care of with retaining walls so planting grass has been tricky for the bare spots. (And walnuts interfering too.) Glad to have Sunday on my side tho because I can see that it has been helping the grass maintain itself through some harsher heat this summer. Also noticed more helpful worms and their natural aeration this year. Looking forward to continuing to make this yard better with Sunday! Unfortunately, I used a different grass seed for an early fall planting and it apparently had a soil “amender” in it and it totally burned the grass that was doing so well. Ugh. That was frustrating. I’ll never do that again - I’ll just stick with the routine that Sunday supplies.
