Sandy soil lawn care tips for Brick Township yards

That 90% sand composition is both a blessing and a challenge. You'll rarely deal with soggy roots or compaction, but you'll need to water more frequently in shorter bursts and fertilize lighter but more often. The biggest local mistake? Dumping a heavy dose of fertilizer once and expecting it to last. Sandy soil just lets it wash right through. Check out our lawn guides for seasonal timing that actually works here.

    So far so good!

My lawn is looking nice and green. I'm in NJ and we got a lot of rain this season, so it was pretty easy to upkeep the lawn, but there were some dead patches. This stuff helped with that and I look forward to next season when I can touch up some of the other areas! Great product and easy to pour.

Very happy with my lawn and this program

I am on my second season with Sunday and my fourth with no regular fertilizer and I am very happy overall. I have fairly poor sandy soil so it isn't easy. I am still fighting some weeds and bare spots but for the most part mw lawn is really pretty impressive. My only complaint is I need Sunday to handle a bigger property.

      Brick Township, New Jersey FAQs

Professional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom plans start at $55 for your first box, with full-season pricing based on your lawn size and any add-ons you choose. Every plan includes a free soil test, personalized schedule, and expert consultations.

Cool-season grasses in Brick Township typically slow down when temperatures drop below 50°F, usually in late fall. This is the time to wrap up fertilizer applications and prepare your lawn for winter. Fall is also ideal for overseeding and weed control before dormancy sets in.

Never cut more than one-third of your grass height at a time. This prevents stress, encourages deeper roots, and helps your lawn grow thicker turf that naturally crowds out weeds. Mow on the highest setting for best results.

Skip the guesswork and over-buying. Sunday's custom plans deliver only what your lawn needs, when it needs it, starting at $55 for your first box. Leave grass clippings on the lawn after mowing for free nutrients, and pull weeds by hand before reaching for treatments.

Common services include fertilization, weed control, seeding, and pest management. Sunday's custom plans cover pesticide-free nutrients, a free soil test, personalized schedules, and expert consultations. You can add grass seed, weed control, and garden or pest products to fit your yard's needs.

Look for plans tailored to your lawn's size, soil, and local climate. Sunday uses satellite imagery and soil data to build a custom plan for your specific yard. Every plan includes expert consultations, so you're never guessing what your grass actually needs.

How to grow grass in Brick Township, New Jersey

Recommended grass species Tall fescue, fine fescue, perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass
      Best establishment method Seeding
Spring seeding window April 25 to May 31
Fall seeding window September 7 to October 11

Brick Township sits in a humid transition zone where sandy, acidic soil drains fast but holds onto summer moisture. That combo means cool-season grasses like tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass thrive here, though fungal issues can sneak up if you're not careful.

Sandy soil drains quick, so time your seed right

Fall seeding (early September through mid-October) gives roots the best shot before winter. A common mistake? Watering too lightly on sandy ground. Those fast-draining soils need deeper, less frequent soaks. Grab some premium grass seed or find the right grass for my yard to match your conditions.
