Lawn care for Winchester, Virginia
Typical lawn size in Winchester | 3,935 sq. ft. |
Dominant grass type in Winchester | Cool-season grasses like tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass |
Typical soil pH for Winchester lawns | 6.8, slightly acidic |
Typical organic matter in Winchester lawns | 6.27% |
Winchester lawn soil composition | 58% silt, 27% sand, 15% clay |
Key soil nutrients in Winchester lawns | Phosphorus: 39 ppm, Potassium: 193 ppm, Calcium: 1,772 ppm, Iron: 137 ppm |
Winchester lawns average around 4,000 square feet, which is typical for suburban Virginia properties. The soil makeup - mostly silt with some sand and clay - means good nutrient retention but can get compacted. A soil test helps track your lawn's specific needs.
The slightly acidic pH of 6.8 works well for cool-season grasses that thrive in Winchester. When planning your lawn care in Winchester, focus on:
- Regular mowing at 3-4 inches for tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass
- Fertilizing in spring and fall when grass grows most actively
- Deep watering 1-2 times weekly instead of daily light sprinkles
- Adding organic matter through mulched grass clippings
The nutrient levels show good calcium but could use more phosphorus for root growth. Lawn care products should match these soil conditions. Check out our lawn care guides for season-specific tips or get a customized plan based on your Winchester lawn's needs.

Great!!!
We live on a farm that gets every make and manner of critter, tha ants are near year round and relentless. I’ve tried bait, traps, boric acid, and every suggested product. This may finally be the end of the fight, and I’ve won! It wasn’t immediate, nothing that works really ever is, but we’re about a week post use and not seeing any ants inside, and very few outside even with temperatures staying mild for an approaching winter. I’m definitely a new fan, and I’ll have this out as my first choice now.
