When to apply liquid fertilizer
Your grass grows best in a specific temperature range. Here's when to aim for:
- Cool-season grasses (fescue, bluegrass, rye): daily averages consistently above 50°F
- Warm-season grasses (bermuda, zoysia, St. Augustine): daily averages above 60°F
Apply every 4-6 weeks while the grass is actively growing, and only apply when the temperature is below 85°F.

Sunday Tip:
How to know if you should skip applying? If your lawn looks stressed or heavy rain is expected within 3 hours, hold off.
How to apply liquid fertilizer
Mow and water your lawn a few hours to a day before applying. This helps nutrients move into the soil more easily.
Prep the pouch
Shake the pouch well. Remove the cap and attach the sprayer nozzle. Hint: it's the dark green one.

Spray your lawn
Turn the water to full pressure and switch the sprayer on.
Spray your lawn, walking at a steady pace for even coverage. A full pouch should take about 10 minutes.
Zipped through it too fast? Take a slower second pass.
(Fun fact: liquid fertilizers absorb through both roots and leaf blades. That's why even coverage matters.)

Let it dry
Stay off the lawn until it's dry. (Yes, that includes the dog.)
While you’re waiting, rinse and save your sprayer nozzle for next time. And enjoy a bevvy—you earned it.
Sunday Tip:
Drying can take 4–24 hours, depending on weather and humidity.

A few things to keep in mind
- Only apply to actively growing grass
- Water your lawn 2 hours before application if soil is dry
- Don't apply if heavy rain is expected within 3 hours
- Wait 24 hours before watering again
- Wait 2 days before mowing
- Store pouches sealed, upright, and away from moisture, kids, pets, and critters
Liquid lawn fertilizer FAQs
What if I miss an application?
No stress. Apply when you can. Just wait at least one week between applications to avoid overdoing it. If you need help adjusting applications, we’re here to help.
Can I use Sunday liquid fertilizer with other Sunday products?
Yes. Sunday liquid fertilizers work alongside Sunday weed killer, grass seed, pest control, and garden products. Apply them in this order:
- Apply liquid fertilizer
- Wait until the lawn is completely dry
- Apply other products
Applying products while the lawn is still wet causes uneven coverage and can waste product.
Can I fertilize my new sod with Sunday?
It’s best to wait until new sod grass is established and actively growing before fertilizing. For new sod, it’s usually fertilized at installation, so hold off on feeding it until it has firmly rooted into the soil.
What if my grass is brown or dormant?
We don’t recommend applying fertilizer to dormant or stressed grass. Nutrients are only effective when the lawn is actively growing, so applying them to a sleeping lawn won’t provide any benefit.
When will I see results with liquid lawn fertilizer?
Every lawn is different, but most start to green up within a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on your grass type, soil condition, and local climate.
