Lawn care built for Albuquerque's high desert

Between the Sandias and the Rio Grande, your yard faces conditions most lawn care companies don't understand. Albuquerque's semiarid climate and alkaline, sandy soil demand an approach built for New Mexico, not borrowed from somewhere greener.

Sunday creates custom lawn plans using satellite imagery of your actual property and data from hundreds of local soil samples. Your yard gets what it needs (and nothing it doesn't).

Why Sunday works for Albuquerque lawns

    • Nutrient plans calibrated for alkaline, fast-draining soil
    • Warm-season timing matched to your growing window
    • Pesticide-free formulas safe for bare feet and desert wildlife
    • Proprietary lawn analysis tailored to your specific property

Lawn care for Albuquerque, New Mexico

Average lawn size 1,144 sq ft (based on 480 local soil tests)
    Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses
Typical soil pH 7.8 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 4.62%
Soil composition 58% sand, 32% silt, 10% clay (sandy loam)
Key nutrients Potassium 359 ppm, phosphorus 142 ppm, calcium 4,516 ppm

Albuquerque lawns run on sandy, alkaline soil that drains fast and dries faster. The good news? That sandy loam means less compaction and solid nutrient levels already in place. The challenge is keeping moisture where roots can actually use it.

Why desert lawn care means watering smarter, not more

Deep, infrequent watering beats daily sprinkles here. Shallow watering trains roots to stay near the surface (exactly where they'll fry in summer heat). Water early morning, let it soak deep, and your warm-season grass will thank you. One common mistake? Overwatering to compensate for dry air. That just wastes water and invites fungal problems. This is a wonderful product

This is a wonderful product and service. I figure I would spend just about the same amount with just generic fertilizer which would not be tailored to my lawn. The soil testing, and specific plan shows it's true merit when peak of summer hits, all my neighbors have lawns that are clearly struggling, with dry and brown patches, while my lawn is nice and green, with less water. It is wonderful!

    You won’t regret this.

I love this program. It’s easy and my lawn hasn’t looked this good in years. It’s also very affordable. I’m not a fan though of the dandelion killer.

We have absolutely loved our Sunday services for the past several years. Our lawn looks great all season long even with a dog. The directions on when and how to administer it are always incredibly clear. I enjoy the application because it is quick and easy to do without the mess of traditional fertilizer pellet.

    Good stuff!

Excellent nutrients, easy to apply, environmentally friendly. This is my 2nd season with Sunday. I’m spending far less on lawn food than before and my lawn is every bit as good as it was prior to switching to Sunday.

How to grow grass in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, buffalograss, blue grama, zoysiagrass
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 27 to June 8

Albuquerque's desert-meets-high-plains climate means your lawn needs to be tough. Hot summers, alkaline soil, and limited rainfall make warm-season grasses like bermudagrass and buffalograss your best allies here.

Why native grasses thrive in the high desert

Seed warm-season grasses from late April through early June when soil temps climb above 65°F. Before planting, test your soil (alkaline conditions are common here) and amend accordingly. Water deeply but infrequently to encourage roots that chase moisture down, not sideways. The biggest local mistake? Overwatering. It wastes precious resources and invites shallow roots that can't handle July. Find the right premium grass seed or explore our grass seed guides for desert-friendly options.
