    Lawn care for Bedford, Texas

Average lawn size 3,006 sq ft (based on local Sunday soil tests)
Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses like bermuda, zoysia, and St. Augustine
Typical soil pH 7.2 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 4.43%
Soil composition 60% sand, 30% silt, 10% clay (sandy loam)
Key nutrients Potassium 196 ppm, phosphorus 62 ppm, calcium 2,608 ppm

Bedford lawns come with sandy loam soil that drains fast and a slightly alkaline pH. That's good news for warm-season grasses like bermuda and zoysia, but it means water disappears quicker than you'd think. The trade-off? Fewer drainage headaches and solid nutrient levels to work with.

Your Bedford lawn care cheat sheet

That sandy soil is thirsty. Water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down instead of staying shallow and stressed. Skip the urge to over-fertilize (a common local mistake) since your potassium and phosphorus levels are already in good shape. Focus on nitrogen during the growing season and let the soil do its job. Texas Lawn

It is super convenient to have your lawn treatment mailed to your door and ready for application. I find the hints for when and how to apply very helpful as well as the hints for lawn care. With all the news about rising prices of fertilizer I was worried my rates would change just prior to the spring season, but Sunday held the prices for the membership steady. I would love to tell you how great my lawn looks today, but here in central Texas I am just happy my lawn is still alive with the water restrictions in place.

Great plan at a great price

Like many home owners, I have tried many paths for lawn care. My norm is DIY. But, I have tried the big corporate services a couple of times. I saw and for Sunday, and checked out the web site. Liked everything I saw, and decided to go with them this season. So far, I am extremely pleased. They design a plan for your lawn based on your location. The plan is tweeked based upon the analysis of soil samples you send in. I received the first box back in March ( it is now the end of June). I am four applications into the plan, and my lawn is looking very good. They send you reminders for each application. Absolutely no complaints so far.

    Let's get started

      Bedford, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom lawn plans start at $55 for your first box and include a free soil analysis, personalized schedule, and expert consultations. Most people save hundreds compared to traditional services.

Never cut more than one-third of your grass height at a time. This prevents stress and helps grow thicker turf that naturally crowds out weeds. Set your mower to the highest setting for best results in Bedford's warm climate.

Yes. October mowing works well in Bedford since warm-season grasses are still active. Keep mowing until growth slows, typically when temperatures consistently drop below 50°F. Maintain a higher cutting height to help roots store energy for winter.

Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. They break down and return nutrients to the soil (free fertilizer). Also water deeply two to three times weekly instead of daily, and pull weeds by hand before they spread.

A typical two-hour session covers mowing, edging, and basic cleanup. For DIY care, that time lets you mow, pull visible weeds, and apply a liquid fertilizer treatment. Sunday's hose-on pouches take about 15 minutes to cover most Bedford lawns.

Mow weekly during peak growing season (spring and early fall in Bedford). In summer heat, you can stretch to every 10 days as growth slows. Always follow the one-third rule and keep blades sharp for cleaner cuts.

How to grow grass in Bedford, Texas

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 17 to May 29

Bedford's warm, humid summers and sandy soil create a fast-draining environment where warm-season grasses thrive (but also dry out quickly). Timing your planting right makes establishment much smoother.

Sandy soil means your watering window is shorter

For seeding, aim for late April through late May when soil temps stay warm enough for germination. Sandy ground loses moisture fast, so water lightly but often during those first few weeks. The most common mistake? Waiting until summer heat arrives, then wondering why seeds struggle. Start earlier, stay consistent, and you'll give roots time to dig in before the real heat shows up.
