    Lawn care for Denton, Texas

Average lawn size 3,105 sq ft
Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses like bermudagrass and zoysia
Typical soil pH 7.5 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 3.24%
Soil composition 60% sand, 30% silt, 10% clay (sandy loam)
Key nutrients Potassium 171 ppm, phosphorus 38.5 ppm, calcium 2,920.5 ppm

Denton lawns grow in sandy loam soil that drains fast and leans alkaline. That's great news for bermuda and zoysia, which thrive here. The challenge? Water disappears quickly, and high calcium can lock up nutrients before roots grab them.

Lawn care tips for Denton's sandy, thirsty soil

Water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down (shallow sprinkles just evaporate). Skip the generic fertilizer aisle and go with something matched to your soil's pH. One common mistake: overwatering to compensate for sandy drainage, which just invites fungus. Check out our lawn guides for more local know-how.

    Texas Lawn

It is super convenient to have your lawn treatment mailed to your door and ready for application. I find the hints for when and how to apply very helpful as well as the hints for lawn care. With all the news about rising prices of fertilizer I was worried my rates would change just prior to the spring season, but Sunday held the prices for the membership steady. I would love to tell you how great my lawn looks today, but here in central Texas I am just happy my lawn is still alive with the water restrictions in place.

    Hot Sunday

Great combination of treatments for my lawn. Even though we are suffering with 102 plus degrees for the last 30+ days our lawn looks good. I really enjoy using Sunday. Way to go!

    It was a great decision!

It was a great decision! It takes all of the guess work out of trying to figure out when and what to put down! And best of all it's pet friendly, so I don't have to wait 24 hours to let my dog out.

    The One Hour Job

I have been able to apply all solutons at the times schedule. It is a bit of work to lay out hoses over the grass area. The walk and spray is simple. The clean up is easy. All finished in about 1 hour.

    Texas = Hot

Easy application and real time support, couldn’t be happier with the system. Had issues this past year with fungus growing, fixed with a better watering plan. Now my issue is the brutal Texas heat.

      Denton, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year in areas like Denton. Sunday offers a smarter alternative with custom plans starting at $55 for your first box. You get a personalized nutrient plan, free soil analysis, and expert support while saving hundreds annually.

Lawn care focuses on grass health through fertilizing, mowing, watering, and weed management. Landscaping covers broader design work like planting trees, shrubs, and garden beds. For Denton lawns, a solid care routine (feeding, proper mowing height, strategic watering) builds the foundation that makes any landscaping shine.

Never cut more than one-third of your grass blade height at once. This prevents stress and helps grow thicker turf that naturally crowds out weeds. For Denton's warm-season grasses, mow on the highest setting and let clippings stay on the lawn as free fertilizer.

For Denton's warm-season lawns, apply fertilizer during late spring through mid-summer when grass is actively growing. Apply when temperatures are between 50°F and 85°F, ideally in early morning. Water your lawn beforehand and avoid application if rain is expected within 24 hours.

Lawn service typically means hiring professionals to handle mowing, trimming, and maintenance visits. Lawn care is the broader practice of feeding, watering, seeding, and managing your yard's health. Many Denton homeowners combine DIY nutrient plans with occasional professional mowing for the best results.

Standard lawn care includes fertilizing, proper mowing, strategic watering, and basic weed management. A solid routine also involves soil testing to understand nutrient needs, seasonal seeding to thicken turf, and adjusting practices for Denton's climate. These fundamentals build a resilient yard that handles Texas heat.

How to grow grass in Denton, Texas

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 19 to May 31

Denton lawns deal with hot summers, alkaline soil, and humidity that can invite fungal issues. Warm-season grasses like Bermuda and zoysia handle the heat well, but timing and soil prep make all the difference.

Why your spring seeding window matters here

Late April through May gives warm-season seeds the heat they need to establish before summer stress kicks in. Work some organic matter into that alkaline soil before planting. One common mistake? Overwatering new grass in humid conditions (hello, fungus). Water deeply but less often. Find the right grass for my yard or browse our grass seed guides for Denton-friendly options.

Build my seasonal schedule and take the guesswork out of your yard.
