Mansfield summers don't mess around. Hot, humid, and sticky enough to make your grass work overtime.

That's where Sunday comes in. We use satellite imagery of your actual yard, local climate data, and a proprietary lawn analysis to build a plan that fits your little patch of Texas.

No guesswork. Just what your lawn needs, when it needs it.

    Lawn care for Mansfield, Texas

Average lawn size 3,620 sq ft (median from local soil tests)
Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses like bermudagrass and zoysia
Typical soil pH 7.7 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 4.1%
Soil composition 20% sand, 25% silt, 55% clay (clay soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 199 ppm, phosphorus 31 ppm, calcium 4,145 ppm

Mansfield lawns grow in heavy clay soil that holds water tight and drains slow. That's great for keeping grass hydrated during scorching summers, but it also means roots can suffocate if you overwater. The slightly alkaline conditions here favor bermudagrass and zoysia, which thrive in the heat.

Why Mansfield lawn care starts with your clay

Your soil's high clay content means watering less often but deeper works best. One common mistake? Frequent light watering that keeps the surface soggy while roots stay shallow. Aerate annually to give those roots breathing room. For more seasonal tips, check out our lawn guides built for warm-season yards like yours.

    Texas Lawn

It is super convenient to have your lawn treatment mailed to your door and ready for application. I find the hints for when and how to apply very helpful as well as the hints for lawn care. With all the news about rising prices of fertilizer I was worried my rates would change just prior to the spring season, but Sunday held the prices for the membership steady. I would love to tell you how great my lawn looks today, but here in central Texas I am just happy my lawn is still alive with the water restrictions in place.

    Texas = Hot

Easy application and real time support, couldn’t be happier with the system. Had issues this past year with fungus growing, fixed with a better watering plan. Now my issue is the brutal Texas heat.

      Mansfield, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services in Mansfield can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom plans start at $55 for your first box and include a free soil analysis, personalized schedule, and expert consultations. Most people save hundreds compared to traditional services.

The 1/3 rule means never cutting more than one-third of your grass height at a time. This prevents stress and helps grow thicker turf that naturally crowds out weeds. Mow on your highest setting for best results in Mansfield's warm climate.

Yes. October is a solid time to fertilize warm-season lawns in Mansfield. Fall feeding helps grass store nutrients before winter dormancy and supports a stronger spring comeback. Apply when temperatures are between 50°F and 85°F for best absorption.

Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. They break down and return free nutrients to the soil. Also mow high, water deeply but less often, and hand-pull weeds before they spread. These simple habits build healthier turf over time.

Free lawn care services are typically offered through local community programs, churches, or volunteer organizations for seniors and veterans. Check with Mansfield's Parks and Recreation department or neighborhood groups for current availability in your area.

During peak growing season, every two weeks is usually too long. Warm-season grasses in Mansfield grow quickly in summer heat. Weekly mowing following the 1/3 rule keeps grass healthy. You can stretch to biweekly when growth slows in fall and winter.

How to grow grass in Mansfield, Texas

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 17 to May 29

Growing grass in Mansfield means working with hot summers, sticky humidity, and alkaline clay soil that can test your patience. The good news? Warm-season grasses like Bermuda and zoysia actually thrive here once established.

Your spring seeding window is tighter than you think

Mid-April through late May is prime time to get premium grass seed in the ground. One common mistake: skipping soil prep on that clay. Loosen it up and water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down instead of staying shallow.
