Lawn care for New Braunfels, Texas

Average lawn size 3,188 sq ft
Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses with some cool-season overseeding options
    Typical soil pH 7.9 (alkaline)
    Organic matter 3.02%
Soil composition 20% sand, 26% silt, 51% clay (clay-heavy soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 309 ppm, phosphorus 32 ppm, calcium 8,447 ppm

New Braunfels lawns grow in clay-heavy, alkaline soil that holds water tight and bakes hard in summer heat. The good news? That clay is packed with nutrients. The challenge is getting roots to breathe and water to drain.

Why New Braunfels lawn care means working with clay

Your soil's high calcium and potassium levels are a gift, so skip heavy fertilizing and focus on aeration instead. Water deeply but infrequently to encourage roots to push through that dense clay. The biggest local mistake? Overwatering, which turns your yard into a soggy, compacted mess. Our lawn guides can help you read what your soil's actually asking for.

Living in San Antonio where we are under drought restrictions, managing a lawn is challenging. My Sunday plan supplemented with Drought Defense and Water Focus has produced amazing results on my turf. Add to that the ease and effectiveness of Weed Warrior on my rock beds, this company has a BIG fan.

    Texas Lawn

It is super convenient to have your lawn treatment mailed to your door and ready for application. I find the hints for when and how to apply very helpful as well as the hints for lawn care. With all the news about rising prices of fertilizer I was worried my rates would change just prior to the spring season, but Sunday held the prices for the membership steady. I would love to tell you how great my lawn looks today, but here in central Texas I am just happy my lawn is still alive with the water restrictions in place.

    Yard Never Better

I previously used a monthly service for my yard and they were terrible and expensive. I used them for a whole season and they never could get rid of the weeds and usually missed treating all of the yard. Since Ive switched to Sunday my yard has never looked better. Still have some crabgrass I’m fighting with but overall I am extremely happy with the products from Sunday. Highly recommend.

      New Braunfels, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year in New Braunfels. Sunday's custom lawn plans start at $55 for your first box and can save you hundreds compared to traditional services. Every plan includes a free soil analysis, personalized nutrient schedule, and expert support.

The 1/3 rule means never cutting more than one-third of your grass blade height at once. This prevents stress on your lawn and helps grow thicker turf that crowds out weeds naturally. Mow on your mower's highest setting for best results in New Braunfels heat.

Landscaping and lawn care are different. Lawn care focuses on grass health through fertilizing, mowing, watering, and weed control. Landscaping involves design elements like plants, trees, hardscaping, and garden beds. Sunday specializes in lawn care with custom nutrient plans tailored to your soil and climate.

Texas requires a commercial pesticide applicator license for professionals applying pesticides on others' property. Homeowners caring for their own lawns typically don't need a license. Sunday's DIY approach ships pesticide-free nutrients directly to you with easy application guides.

New Braunfels warm-season lawns thrive when fertilized during late spring through mid-summer when temperatures stay between 70 and 90 degrees. Apply nutrients in early morning or evening. Sunday's custom plans time deliveries to your local climate so products arrive exactly when your lawn needs them.

Look for lawn care that's customized to your specific soil and local climate. Sunday uses satellite imagery, soil testing, and regional growing data to create personalized plans. Every plan includes expert Yard Advisor support and products formulated without harsh pesticides (safe for kids and pets).

How to grow grass in New Braunfels, Texas

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window March 30 to May 11
Fall seeding window October 1 to November 10

New Braunfels lawns face a double challenge: alkaline clay soil and summers that test even the toughest turf. The good news? Warm-season grasses like Bermuda, zoysia, and St. Augustine actually thrive in this heat once established.

Your spring planting window closes faster than you think

Late March through early May is prime time for seeding or sodding in New Braunfels. Prep matters here. Work some organic matter into that stubborn clay before planting, and water deeply but less often to encourage roots that can handle July. One common mistake? Shallow daily watering that keeps roots lazy and heat-vulnerable. Browse our premium grass seed or find the right grass for your yard.
