Lawn care built for New Port Richey's sandy reality

The Cotee River winds through town, but water doesn't stick around in your yard. New Port Richey sits on soil that's over 90% sand, which means nutrients wash through faster than a summer thunderstorm clears Main Street.

That's where Sunday comes in. We build custom lawn plans for Florida lawns like yours, using satellite imagery of your actual property and local climate data. No guesswork, just science that fits your little patch of New Port Richey earth.

Lawn care for New Port Richey, Florida

Average lawn size 2,228 sq ft
Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses like St. Augustine and Bermuda
Typical soil pH 6.85 (near neutral)
    Organic matter 3.66%
Soil composition 92% sand, 5% silt, 3% clay (sandy soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 41.5 ppm, phosphorus 63 ppm, calcium 1,667 ppm

New Port Richey lawns grow in almost pure sand, which means water drains fast and nutrients don't stick around long. The good news? Your soil pH sits right where St. Augustine and Bermuda like it. The challenge is keeping everything fed and hydrated without overdoing it.

Sandy soil lawn care needs a lighter touch

That fast-draining sand works against you if you dump fertilizer all at once. It washes right through. Instead, feed smaller amounts more often and water deeply but less frequently to encourage roots to dig down. One common mistake here: watering every day for five minutes. That keeps roots shallow and invites fungus (humidity loves company). Check out our lawn guides for warm-season tips that actually fit Florida yards.

    It's A Beautiful Thing

We dropped a well known Florida based lawn and pest control service. We began using Sunday products and couldn't be more pleased with the results. The lawn, it's St. Augustine grass, has never looked better. Very thick and plush green carpet like lawn. Pests are no longer an issue ie bugs, spiders, roaches are all gone. Grubs eliminated in the yard help promote a healthy lawn and fixed the mole problem. Finally, all of this for half of the price I was paying the "experts".

    Let's get started

      New Port Richey, Florida FAQs

Traditional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday plans start at $55 for your first box and include a custom nutrient plan, free soil analysis, and expert consultations. Most people save hundreds compared to conventional services.

Never cut more than one-third of your grass height at a time. This prevents stress on your turf and encourages thicker growth that naturally crowds out weeds. Mow on the highest setting for best results in Florida's warm climate.

St. Augustine and Zoysiagrass are top picks for New Port Richey. Both handle Florida's heat and humidity well, with Zoysia offering better shade tolerance. These warm-season grasses thrive with minimal fuss once established.

Yes, but less often in winter. Warm-season grasses in New Port Richey grow actively from late spring through mid-fall. During cooler months, growth slows significantly. You might mow every few weeks instead of weekly.

Landscaping typically covers mowing, fertilizing, weed management, watering, and seasonal seeding or patching. Some services add pest control or aeration. Sunday focuses on the nutrient and soil health side, shipping what your lawn needs based on local climate data.

Look for services that mow high (not scalping your turf) and leave clippings on the lawn. Clippings break down into free nutrients. Ask if they sharpen blades regularly. Dull blades stress grass and invite disease.

How to grow grass in New Port Richey, Florida

Recommended grass species St. Augustinegrass, zoysiagrass, bermudagrass, centipedegrass, bahiagrass
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window March 10 to April 21

New Port Richey's warm, humid climate and sandy soil make it a great spot for heat-loving grasses like St. Augustine and bahia. The challenge? Humidity invites fungus, and sandy ground drains fast.

Why your spring timing window actually matters here

Plant between mid-March and late April when soil temps climb but before summer's heat stress kicks in. Sandy soil needs more frequent (but lighter) watering to keep roots happy without drowning them. One common mistake: overwatering and creating the soggy conditions fungus loves. Let the top inch dry between drinks.
