Lawn care for North Richland Hills, Texas

Average lawn size 2,023 sq ft (based on local soil tests)
    Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses
Typical soil pH 7.7 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 4.05%
Soil composition 60% sand, 30% silt, 10% clay (sandy loam)
Key nutrients Potassium 195 ppm, phosphorus 39 ppm, calcium 3,740 ppm

North Richland Hills lawns come with sandy loam soil that drains fast and a slightly alkaline pH. That's good news for warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia, which thrive here. The challenge? Hot summers and humidity mean moisture management takes some attention.

Sandy soil and lawn care in North Richland Hills

Your soil drains quickly (thanks to all that sand), so water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down. One common mistake: frequent shallow watering that keeps roots lazy and shallow. With alkaline soil, iron supplements can help keep grass from yellowing. Check out our lawn guides for more region-specific tips.

    Texas Lawn

It is super convenient to have your lawn treatment mailed to your door and ready for application. I find the hints for when and how to apply very helpful as well as the hints for lawn care. With all the news about rising prices of fertilizer I was worried my rates would change just prior to the spring season, but Sunday held the prices for the membership steady. I would love to tell you how great my lawn looks today, but here in central Texas I am just happy my lawn is still alive with the water restrictions in place.

    I had used True Green

I had used True Green for a couple of years and was not happy with how my lawn looked. I saw an add for Sunday and tried them out. They are much more economical than True Green and give better results. Even paying extra for seed to reseed the yard every year still is less than True Green. My lawn looks the best it has ever looked and I love that all products are eco friendly.

      North Richland Hills, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom plans start at $55 for your first box, with full-season pricing based on your lawn size and any add-ons you choose. Every plan includes a free soil test and personalized schedule.

Never cut more than one-third of your grass height at a time. This prevents stress on your turf and encourages thicker growth that naturally crowds out weeds. Mow on the highest setting for best results in North Richland Hills.

Yes. October is a smart time to fertilize in North Richland Hills. Fall fertilizing supports root development as your grass stores energy for winter. Apply when temps are between 50°F and 85°F for best nutrient absorption.

Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. They break down and return nutrients to the soil like free fertilizer. Water deeply two to three times weekly instead of daily, and pull weeds by hand before they spread.

During peak growing season, every two weeks is usually too infrequent. Mowing weekly helps you follow the one-third rule and keeps grass healthy. In summer dormancy or winter, you can stretch intervals longer.

In two hours, you can mow a typical lawn, pull visible weeds, and apply a liquid fertilizer treatment. Sunday's hose-on pouches take about 15 minutes per application, leaving time for watering and quick spot-checks around the yard.

How to grow grass in North Richland Hills, Texas

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 16 to May 28

North Richland Hills sits in that classic North Texas sweet spot where summer heat meets alkaline clay and the occasional humid stretch keeps things interesting. Warm-season grasses thrive here, but timing and soil prep make all the difference.

Your mid-April window is shorter than you think

Bermuda, zoysia, and St. Augustine all love the warmth rolling in by late April, so aim to seed or sod before Memorial Day while soil temps are climbing. Work in some organic matter to loosen that alkaline clay (your roots will thank you). One common misstep? Watering too often and too shallow. Deep, less frequent soaks encourage roots to dig down where moisture actually sticks around.
