    Lawn care for Northlake, Texas

Average lawn size 2,851 sq ft
    Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses
Typical soil pH 8.0 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 2.07%
Soil composition 25% sand, 26% silt, 49% clay (clay soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 152 ppm, phosphorus 15 ppm, calcium 5,094 ppm

Northlake lawns come with that classic North Texas clay challenge: heavy soil that holds water like a grudge and dries into concrete by August. The good news? Warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia actually thrive here once you work with the soil instead of fighting it.

Why Northlake lawn care starts underground

That clay-heavy ground means roots struggle to breathe, so aeration matters more than most folks realize. Water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down rather than pooling at the surface. One common mistake? Overwatering alkaline clay, which just invites fungus to the party. Check out our lawn guides for warm-season tips that actually fit your dirt.

    I had used True Green

I had used True Green for a couple of years and was not happy with how my lawn looked. I saw an add for Sunday and tried them out. They are much more economical than True Green and give better results. Even paying extra for seed to reseed the yard every year still is less than True Green. My lawn looks the best it has ever looked and I love that all products are eco friendly.

    Texas = Hot

Easy application and real time support, couldn’t be happier with the system. Had issues this past year with fungus growing, fixed with a better watering plan. Now my issue is the brutal Texas heat.

      Northlake, Texas FAQs

Traditional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday custom plans start at $55 for your first box and include personalized nutrients, a free soil analysis, and expert consultations. Final cost depends on your lawn size and any add-ons you choose.

The 1/3 rule means never cutting more than one-third of your grass height at a time. Mowing on the highest setting prevents stress and encourages thicker turf that naturally crowds out weeds. This simple habit builds a more resilient yard over time.

Most Texas municipalities enforce grass height ordinances to maintain neighborhood appearance and reduce pest habitats. Overgrown lawns can attract rodents and mosquitoes. Check Northlake's local codes for specific height limits, as fines vary by city.

Yes. October is ideal for fall fertilizing in North Texas. Warm soil and cooler air help grass roots absorb nutrients and store energy for winter. Apply when temperatures stay between 50°F and 85°F for best results.

Basic lawn care covers mowing, watering, fertilizing, and weed management. Sunday plans include custom nutrients, a free soil test, a personalized schedule, and Yard Advisor consultations. You can add weed control, grass seed, or pest solutions as needed.

Leave grass clippings on your lawn after mowing. They break down and return nutrients to the soil (free fertilizer). Water deeply two to three times weekly instead of daily, and pull weeds by hand before they spread.

How to grow grass in Northlake, Texas

Recommended grass species bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 18 to May 30

Northlake sits in warm, humid North Texas where alkaline clay soil and summer heat can stress even tough grasses. The good news? Bermuda, zoysia, St. Augustine, and buffalo all thrive here once established.

Your spring seeding window runs mid-April through May

That timing matters because soil temps need to hit 65°F before warm-season seeds wake up. Prep your alkaline clay with a bit of compost to improve drainage. One common mistake: watering too often and too shallow. Deep, infrequent soaks encourage roots to dig down where moisture lasts. Browse our premium grass seed or find the right grass for your yard.
