Lawn care for Palm Harbor, Florida
| Average lawn size | 3,235 sq ft |
| Dominant grass type | warm-season grasses |
| Typical soil pH | 7.3 (slightly alkaline) |
| Organic matter | 4.36% |
| Soil composition | 92% sand, 5% silt, 3% clay (very sandy soil) |
| Key nutrients | potassium 50 ppm, phosphorus 98 ppm, calcium 1,857 ppm |
Palm Harbor lawns sit on seriously sandy soil, which means water drains fast and nutrients don't stick around long. The good news? Warm-season grasses love the sunshine here. The challenge is keeping everything fed and hydrated without overdoing it.
Sandy soil lawn care needs a lighter touch
That 92% sand composition is a double-edged sword. Water more often but in shorter bursts (think sips, not gulps) to prevent runoff. The biggest local mistake? Fertilizing heavily all at once, then watching it wash straight through. Slow-release nutrients work better here. Check out our lawn guides for more sandy soil strategies.

It's A Beautiful Thing
We dropped a well known Florida based lawn and pest control service. We began using Sunday products and couldn't be more pleased with the results. The lawn, it's St. Augustine grass, has never looked better. Very thick and plush green carpet like lawn. Pests are no longer an issue ie bugs, spiders, roaches are all gone. Grubs eliminated in the yard help promote a healthy lawn and fixed the mole problem. Finally, all of this for half of the price I was paying the "experts".

About to start my second year with Sunday and there will be many more to come. The quick customer service response, both call and email, the soil analysis and personalized recipe for our lawn has resulted in a lawn to be proud of...and I am!! Not wanting to keep the secret, I want our neighborhood to green up and have a couple starting this spring. Delighted to be on board.

Palm Harbor, Florida FAQs
How to grow grass in Palm Harbor, Florida
| Recommended grass species | St. augustinegrass, zoysiagrass, bermudagrass, centipedegrass, bahiagrass |
| Best establishment method | Seeding, sodding, or plugging |
| Spring seeding window | March 14 to April 25 |
Palm Harbor's sandy soil and humid summers make warm-season grasses like St. Augustine and zoysia feel right at home. The challenge? Managing moisture without inviting fungus to the party.
Why spring timing matters more than you'd think
Your best planting window runs mid-March through late April, when soil temps climb but before summer heat stress kicks in. Water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down through that sandy ground. The classic mistake here is overwatering (your lawn isn't a swamp, even if Florida sometimes feels like one).
