Sunday's approach to lawn care in Panama City

Panama City lawns live in a world of sand, salt air, and humidity that never quits. With nearly 90% sandy soil and a warm humid climate, your grass faces a unique set of challenges here in Florida.

Sunday builds custom lawn plans around these exact conditions. We start with a proprietary lawn analysis to understand what your specific patch of earth actually needs.

Why Panama City yards need a local approach

    • Sandy soil drains fast and loses nutrients quickly
    • Warm-season grasses thrive with the right timing
    • Humidity creates moisture challenges worth managing
    • Custom plans adjust to your yard's actual conditions

Lawn care for Panama City, Florida

Average lawn size 4,026 sq ft (based on local Sunday soil samples)
    Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses
Typical soil pH 6.5 (slightly acidic)
    Organic matter 1.7%
Soil composition 89% sand, 7% silt, 4% clay (very sandy soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 27 ppm, phosphorus 42.5 ppm, calcium 651 ppm

Panama City lawns come with sandy soil that drains fast (almost too fast) and a warm, humid climate that keeps grass growing nearly year-round. The good news? Your soil pH sits right where warm-season grasses like it. The challenge is holding onto water and nutrients long enough for roots to grab them.

Sandy soil changes everything about lawn care here

That 89% sand means water and fertilizer slip through quickly. Water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down. Light, frequent feedings work better than heavy dumps. The most common local mistake? Overwatering the surface while starving the roots below. Check out our lawn guides for more sandy-soil strategies.

    Wow! Two and a half

Wow! Two and a half years ago I had sparse zoysia grass on one corner of my back yard and the rest (2/3) was all sand and nasty little sand spurs (ouch). It's not easy to get grass to grow well only 3 blocks from the beach. But with Sunday bags of lawn treats, I now have almost an entire lawn of beautiful green healthy grass -- just a couple of small patches to finish growing in. It's lush and cushy under my feet. Love it!

      Panama City, Florida FAQs

Professional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom plans start at $55 for your first box and include a free soil analysis, personalized nutrient schedule, and expert support. Most homeowners save hundreds compared to traditional services.

St. Augustine and Bermudagrass thrive in Panama City's warm, humid climate. St. Augustine handles shade and drought well, while Bermudagrass creates dense, traffic-tolerant turf. Both stay green nearly year-round in Florida's mild winters.

Never remove more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mow. Cutting more stresses your lawn and weakens the root system. For warm-season grasses like Bermuda, this means mowing when grass reaches 1.5 to 3 inches tall.

Lawn care covers the full picture: fertilizing, watering, mowing, and soil health. Lawn service typically means hiring someone for specific tasks like mowing or trimming. DIY lawn care with a custom plan gives you control while saving hundreds annually.

Pest control focuses on prevention and ongoing management using targeted treatments. Exterminators typically handle one-time infestations with more aggressive methods. An Integrated Pest Management approach catches problems early and reduces the need for harsh chemicals.

Sunday's custom lawn plans use your soil data, local climate, and satellite imagery to create a personalized nutrient schedule. Products ship directly to you in 2-4 seasonal deliveries. Just attach the pouch to your hose and spray.

How to grow grass in Panama City, Florida

Recommended grass species St. augustinegrass, bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, centipedegrass, bahiagrass
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging

Growing grass in Panama City means working with sandy soil, sticky humidity, and summers that test even the toughest turf. The good news? Warm-season grasses like St. Augustine and Bermuda thrive here once established.

Sandy soil drains fast (sometimes too fast)

Your mid-April to mid-May seeding window is prime time, but don't skip soil prep. Sandy ground loses moisture quickly, so water new seed lightly and often rather than drenching it once. One common mistake? Planting too late and letting summer heat stress young roots before they're ready.
