    Lawn care for Pensacola, Florida

Average lawn size 3,317 sq ft (based on 300+ local soil tests)
    Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses
Typical soil pH 6.2 (slightly acidic)
    Organic matter 2.05%
Soil composition 90% sand, 6% silt, 3% clay (sand-dominant soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 36 ppm, phosphorus 41 ppm, calcium 618 ppm

Pensacola lawns grow in what's basically beach sand with a pH that's just slightly acidic. That sandy soil drains fast (sometimes too fast) and stays warm enough for St. Augustine and bahia to thrive. The challenge? Keeping nutrients from washing straight through.

Sandy soil lawn care starts with smarter watering

With 90% sand, water and fertilizer slip through like a screen door. Water deeply but less often to train roots downward. Split your fertilizer into smaller, more frequent applications so nutrients stick around. The classic mistake here is overwatering, which just flushes everything away. Check out our lawn guides for timing tips that actually work in Gulf Coast sand.

    It's A Beautiful Thing

We dropped a well known Florida based lawn and pest control service. We began using Sunday products and couldn't be more pleased with the results. The lawn, it's St. Augustine grass, has never looked better. Very thick and plush green carpet like lawn. Pests are no longer an issue ie bugs, spiders, roaches are all gone. Grubs eliminated in the yard help promote a healthy lawn and fixed the mole problem. Finally, all of this for half of the price I was paying the "experts".

      Pensacola, Florida FAQs

Professional lawn services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom plans start at $55 for your first box and include pesticide-free nutrients, a free soil analysis, and expert support. Most neighbors save hundreds compared to traditional services.

Lawn care covers the essentials you do yourself: fertilizing, watering, mowing, and weed management. Lawn service means hiring pros to handle it for you. Sunday bridges the gap with custom nutrient plans shipped to your door, plus expert guidance whenever you need it.

Never remove more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mow. Cutting too much stresses roots and weakens turf. For Pensacola's warm-season grasses like St. Augustine, this keeps lawns resilient through heat and humidity.

Standard lawn care includes fertilization, weed control, mowing, and watering. Sunday plans add a custom soil test, pesticide-free nutrients timed to your climate, and unlimited Yard Advisor support. You can also add grass seed, pest control, and garden products.

During peak growing season, Pensacola lawns often need weekly mowing. St. Augustine grass should stay between 2 to 3 inches tall. Mow frequently enough that you never cut more than one-third of the blade at once.

Fertilize warm-season lawns when grass is actively growing, typically spring through early fall. Apply when temperatures stay between 50°F and 85°F, ideally in early morning or evening. Sunday's custom plans time shipments to your local growing season automatically.

How to grow grass in Pensacola, Florida

Recommended grass species St. augustinegrass, centipedegrass, bahiagrass, zoysiagrass, bermudagrass
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 11 to May 23

Pensacola's sandy, acidic soil and humid summers create the perfect recipe for warm-season grasses (and the occasional fungal surprise). The trick is working with your coastal climate, not against it.

Why timing matters more than you think here

Your spring seeding window runs mid-April through late May, when soil temps finally cooperate. Prep that sandy ground with organic matter to help it hold moisture, then water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down. The classic local mistake? Overwatering in humid weather, which invites fungus faster than a potluck invites casseroles.
