Lawn care for Port St Lucie, Florida

Average lawn size 5,723 sq ft
Dominant grass type Warm-season grasses like St. Augustine, Bermuda, and zoysia
Typical soil pH 7.2 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 2.9%
Soil composition 92% sand, 5% silt, 3% clay (sandy soil)
Key nutrients Potassium 44 ppm, phosphorus 42 ppm, calcium 1,847 ppm

Port St Lucie lawns grow in almost pure sand, which means water disappears fast and nutrients don't stick around long. The good news? Warm-season grasses like St. Augustine and Bermuda love the heat here. The challenge is keeping them fed and hydrated without overdoing it.

Sandy soil changes everything about lawn care

That 92% sand drains quickly, so watering deeply but less often beats daily sprinkles (which just encourage shallow roots). Fertilize lighter and more frequently since nutrients wash through sandy soil like coffee through a filter. One common mistake? Overwatering during humid summers, which invites fungus to crash the party. Check out our lawn guides for more warm-climate tips.

    It's A Beautiful Thing

We dropped a well known Florida based lawn and pest control service. We began using Sunday products and couldn't be more pleased with the results. The lawn, it's St. Augustine grass, has never looked better. Very thick and plush green carpet like lawn. Pests are no longer an issue ie bugs, spiders, roaches are all gone. Grubs eliminated in the yard help promote a healthy lawn and fixed the mole problem. Finally, all of this for half of the price I was paying the "experts".

    Let's get started

      Port St Lucie, Florida FAQs

Traditional lawn care services can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's first box starts at $55 and includes a custom nutrient plan, free soil analysis, and expert consultations. Full plan costs vary by lawn size and any add-ons you choose.

Never cut more than one-third of your grass blade height in a single mow. This prevents stress on warm-season grasses like St. Augustine, encourages deeper root growth, and helps your lawn stay thick enough to naturally crowd out weeds.

A complete lawn care plan covers fertilization, weed management, pest control, and proper mowing and watering guidance. Sunday plans include custom nutrient shipments, a soil test, expert Yard Advisor access, and options to add weed control, grass seed, or pest products.

Water deeply two to three times weekly instead of daily shallow watering. Leave grass clippings on the lawn after mowing (free nutrients). Pull weeds by hand before they spread. Mow on the highest setting to grow thicker, more resilient turf.

During the growing season, mow weekly to maintain St. Augustine grass between 2 and 3 inches tall. Never remove more than one-third of the blade at once. In fall, raise your mowing height about an inch to help grass store energy for cooler months.

For warm-season grasses like St. Augustine, fertilize in spring when grass actively grows and avoid late fall applications. Water in early morning, apply nutrients when temperatures are between 50°F and 85°F, and seed or plug bare spots in late spring through summer.

How to grow grass in Port St Lucie, Florida

Recommended grass species St. Augustinegrass, bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, bahiagrass, centipedegrass
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window February 17 to March 30

Port St Lucie's sandy soil drains fast and the humid summers invite fungal visitors if you're not careful. The good news? Warm-season grasses like St. Augustine and bahia actually thrive here once established.

Sandy soil needs a head start before planting

Your best planting window runs mid-February through late March, before the real heat kicks in. Water deeply but less often to encourage roots to dig down into that sandy ground. One common mistake? Overwatering in humid stretches, which rolls out the welcome mat for fungus.
