Typical soil pH 7.8 (slightly alkaline)
    Organic matter 2.88%

Royse City lawns come with a built-in challenge: heavy clay soil that holds water like a grudge and leans alkaline. The good news? Warm-season grasses like bermuda and St. Augustine actually thrive here once you understand what's happening underground.

Why Royse City lawn care starts with the clay beneath your feet

That dense clay means water pools instead of draining, so overwatering is the most common local mistake. Water deeply but less often, and aerate annually to give roots room to breathe. A soil test helps you know exactly what nutrients your yard is missing (hint: iron often struggles in alkaline conditions). Our lawn guides break down the specifics for North Texas clay.

    Texas Lawn

It is super convenient to have your lawn treatment mailed to your door and ready for application. I find the hints for when and how to apply very helpful as well as the hints for lawn care. With all the news about rising prices of fertilizer I was worried my rates would change just prior to the spring season, but Sunday held the prices for the membership steady. I would love to tell you how great my lawn looks today, but here in central Texas I am just happy my lawn is still alive with the water restrictions in place.

    Texas = Hot

Easy application and real time support, couldn’t be happier with the system. Had issues this past year with fungus growing, fixed with a better watering plan. Now my issue is the brutal Texas heat.

      Royse City, Texas FAQs

Professional lawn care services in Royse City can run up to $1,500 per year. Sunday's custom plans start at $55 for your first box and include pesticide-free nutrients, a free soil analysis, and expert consultations. Most families save hundreds compared to traditional services.

The 1/3 rule means never cutting more than one-third of your grass blade height at once. For Royse City lawns, this prevents stress and keeps roots strong. Set your mower to the highest setting and let longer grass naturally crowd out weeds.

The 150 rule suggests warm-season grasses like Bermuda and St. Augustine grow best when soil temperatures consistently reach 150°F combined over several days. In Royse City, this typically means active growth from late spring through summer when feeding matters most.

Yes, October is a good time to fertilize warm-season lawns in Royse City. Apply when temps are between 50°F and 85°F and grass is still actively growing. This fall feeding helps roots store nutrients before winter dormancy kicks in.

Mow your Royse City lawn when grass reaches about 3 to 4 inches, typically weekly during peak growing season. Keep your mower at the highest setting. Taller grass develops deeper roots and naturally resists drought and weeds better.

Break your two hours into focused tasks. Spend 45 minutes mowing at the highest setting, 30 minutes on targeted weed control (spot treat, don't blanket spray), and 45 minutes watering deeply. Morning applications work best in Royse City's Texas heat.

How to grow grass in Royse City, Texas

Recommended grass species Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, St. Augustinegrass, buffalograss
Best establishment method Seeding, sodding, or plugging
Spring seeding window April 21 to June 2

Growing grass in Royse City means working with alkaline clay soil and humidity that can invite fungal issues if you're not careful. The hot summers favor warm-season grasses, and timing your planting right makes all the difference.

Your spring seeding window runs late April through early June

That six-week stretch gives warm-season grasses like Bermuda and zoysia the heat they need to establish strong roots before summer peaks. Prep your soil by loosening that clay and consider a soil test to check pH levels. One common mistake here is watering too frequently in humid conditions, which encourages fungus. Deep, less frequent soaks work better. Browse our grass seed guides or find the right grass for my yard to match your space.
