Your lawn and your dog can coexist

Pet Lawn Grass Seed is a urine-resistant grass seed blend built from genetics, not chemical coatings. We tested 160 plus varieties and picked the ones that handle nitrogen and salt from dog urine. Two tall fescues, one ryegrass, for northern and transitional climates. Pair with Pet Patch Kit for concentrated spots that need soil repair first.

What makes Pet Lawn Grass Seed different

  • Resists dog pee damage and heavy paw traffic
  • 85% germination, 99.9% weed free seed
  • Fills in dead spots and yellow patches fast
  • Full sun to partial shade, most soil types
  • A-LIST approved for quality and low upkeep

Ingredients

Turf-type tall fescue (two varieties). Deep roots and thick blades that stand up to heavy foot traffic and dog urine. These are the workhorses of the blend, built for long-term durability in your yard.

Perennial ryegrass (one variety). Fast germinating, often sprouting in 5 to 7 days. It fills in bare spots quickly while the fescue establishes deeper roots underneath.

How to use

Plant when temps are between 50 and 65 degrees F, typically early fall or spring.

  1. Prep the area. Rake away dead grass and loosen the top layer of soil. For spots with heavy urine damage, use Pet Patch Spot Treatment first to treat the soil underneath.
  2. Spread the seed. Use 2 lbs per 1,000 sq ft for maintenance overseeding. For heavy repair or bare ground, use 8 lbs per 1,000 sq ft.
  3. Cover lightly. Rake a thin layer of soil or compost over the seed to keep it in contact with the ground.
  4. Water daily. Keep the seeded area moist for the first 3 to 4 weeks. Short, frequent watering works best.
  5. Keep dogs off for 3 to 4 weeks. Give the new grass time to root in before letting pets back on it.

What makes Pet Lawn Grass Seed resistant to dog urine?

Pet Lawn Grass Seed uses two turf-type tall fescues and one perennial ryegrass selected from over 160 varieties tested for urine resistance. These grasses tolerate the nitrogen and salt overload that dog pee leaves behind, so they bounce back from yellow spots and brown patches instead of thinning out.

Can I use Pet Lawn Grass Seed to overseed my whole lawn or just for spots?

Pet Lawn Grass Seed works for full lawn overseeding and spot repair. For overseeding, spread at 2 lbs per 1,000 sq ft. For bare ground or heavy damage, use 8 lbs per 1,000 sq ft. Many dog owners do both at the same time to build urine resistance across the entire yard.

How long does Pet Lawn Grass Seed take to grow?

Pet Lawn Grass Seed germinates in 7 to 14 days for the tall fescue varieties and as few as 5 to 7 days for the perennial ryegrass. Consistent moisture and temps between 50 and 65 degrees F give you the best results.

When is the best time to plant Pet Lawn Grass Seed?

Pet Lawn Grass Seed grows best when planted in the fall or spring, when temps are between 50 and 65 degrees F. Fall seeding gives roots more time to develop before summer heat. You can also seed in winter when temps drop consistently below 40 degrees F.

How do I fix dead spots from dog pee in my lawn?

Start by treating the dead spots with Pet Patch to flush the nitrogen and salt buildup from the soil. Once the soil is prepped, seed with Pet Lawn Grass Seed at 8 lbs per 1,000 sq ft, cover lightly with soil or compost, and water daily until the grass fills in.

How long should I keep my dog off the lawn after seeding?

Keep dogs and foot traffic off seeded areas for 3 to 4 weeks after planting Pet Lawn Grass Seed. The new grass needs consistent moisture and minimal disturbance to root in. Once you have mowed it at least once, your dog can go back out.

Finally grass!!

I have two dogs that go in the same spot, creating bare spots all over. We have tried top brands of grass seed the last two years and nothing grew. Sunday pet lawn finally did it. I am soo happy to see grass in our bare spots again. I used sunday pet patch fertilizer before planting seed. Make sure ...

Bad germination

I’ve now planted this in many bare spots and in just about every area I’m only getting about a 20% germination rate. The areas were raked in and covered with a bit of topsoil. All areas were water 2-3x daily depending on weather.

We're sorry to hear that and appreciate the detailed feedback. It sounds like you put in the effort to prepare and water the areas properly, so we understand how disappointing a low germination rate can be. Grass seed success can also be affected by soil temperature, seed-to-soil contact, existing weed competition, and heavy rain or washout. We'd love to learn a bit more about your growing conditions and timing so we can help figure out what may have limited germination and get those bare spots filling in.

Excellent Pet Friendly Seed

This pet friendly seed is amazing! My yard was so "jacked-up" with about 35% of it suffering significant sized bare spots where watering had no effect. After applying this seed all over the yard (and putting peat-moss over it with a roller), my yard became a lush green and those bare spots disappear...

We’re really sorry to hear this, we know how frustrating it is to see something like that pop up after putting in the work. Poa trivialis usually shows up from existing soil or surrounding areas rather than seed, but we definitely want to help you get ahead of it and recover those areas. If you can, reach out to us at [email protected] and our yard advisors will work with you to get things moving in the right direction again

Disappointed

I used & cared for this grass seed exactly as directed but absolutely nothing grew. I am disappointed, because we have a large dog that runs *hard* around the yard and there were a few spots (her turning points) that we just mud/dirt and I really wanted a nice, strong grass in those spots.

We're sorry to hear that this was your experience with Sunday! There are a few factors that may have affected your seed germination. 1. Applying the correct rate (or amount of seed). By over-application, we're referring to applying outside of our labeled and recommended seed rates. Over-application of seed can result in too much seed in a single area and cause it to not germinate successfully. 2. Watering correctly is critical. The soil needs to be moist, but not saturated, until grass has germinated. If it gets dried out even for a few days, it may not grow from the soil. 3. Germination rates should be about 7-21 days, but can be more if conditions are not quite right.

Ripoff

I used two bags of this stuff on a 600 sq ft area and attained less than desirable results on my backyard. I used a different local seed on my front yard and got way better results. This moisture boost coating is all non-sense. Half the bag is that junk so that means you only get 1. 5 lbs of seed on...

No growth

I signed up for the Sunday yard care plan and added this as I have a pup now who’s killing my yard. I followed the instruction and even added the extra of putting down some fresh topsoil before applying the seed and over a week in I have no germination anywhere. It hasn’t been overly hot and I’v...

Minimal Germination

Tried to patch multiple spots throughout small yard in SoCal, but minimal germination at best. I used a big box store brand to compare and it worked fine. Sunday products are not efficacious.

Not a “verified buyer”

We used 2 bags of this grass seed, thinking the first time we used it maybe it was just a bad batch. Neither batch ever took root/sprouted. We followed the directions to a T and never got green grass not preventative urine spots.
