Your coolest lawn starts right here

Kentucky's Best Grass Seed is a premium Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass blend for cool-season lawns. This mix fills in faster than pure bluegrass, with deep emerald color and 99.9% weed-free seed at an 85% germination rate. Pair it with a Custom Lawn Plan for a full yard strategy.

What makes Kentucky's Best Grass Seed (2-pack) different

  • 99.9% weed-free with 85% germination rate
  • Deep emerald green color all season long
  • Establishes faster than pure bluegrass seed
  • High heat, drought, and disease resistance
  • Grows in full shade to partial sun
  • A-LIST approved for quality and low maintenance

Ingredients

Kentucky Bluegrass (2 varieties): Delivers deep emerald color, thick density, and self-repairing growth through underground rhizomes. This is what gives your lawn that carpet-like look.

Perennial Ryegrass (2 varieties): Germinates fast and establishes quickly, filling in your lawn while the bluegrass takes root. Adds strong wear tolerance for yards that actually get used.

How to use

Plant in spring or fall when temperatures stay between 55 and 75 degrees F. You can also do a dormant seeding in winter when temps drop below 40 degrees F consistently.

  1. Measure your space. Apply at a rate of 2 lbs per 1,000 sq ft for overseeding, heavy repair, weedy lawns, and new lawns.
  2. Set your spreader low. Start at the lowest setting and apply seed uniformly across the area. You can always add more.
  3. Water right away. Give the seed a good soak after spreading.
  4. Keep it moist, not soggy. Water lightly and regularly for 1 to 3 weeks until germination. No puddles.
  5. Be patient. Expect germination in 8 to 21 days. The ryegrass will pop first, and the bluegrass will follow.

When should I plant Kentucky's Best Grass Seed?

Kentucky's Best Grass Seed grows best when planted in spring or fall, when temperatures stay between 55 and 75 degrees F.

You can also try dormant seeding in winter when temps drop below 40 degrees F consistently. The seed will sit until conditions are right, then germinate in early spring.

How long does Kentucky's Best Grass Seed take to grow?

Kentucky's Best Grass Seed germinates in 8 to 21 days depending on conditions.

The perennial ryegrass in the blend sprouts first, giving you visible progress within a week or two. The Kentucky bluegrass follows and fills in over the next few weeks.

Can I use Kentucky's Best to overseed my existing lawn?

Yes. Kentucky's Best Grass Seed works well for overseeding at a rate of 2 lbs per 1,000 sq ft.

Spread the seed evenly over your existing lawn, keep it moist for 1 to 3 weeks, and the new grass will thicken up thin or worn areas.

What is the difference between Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue?

Kentucky's Best Grass Seed uses Kentucky bluegrass, which spreads through underground rhizomes and creates a thick, self-repairing lawn.

Tall fescue grows in bunches and handles drought better, but it won't spread on its own the way bluegrass does. Both are cool-season grasses.

What grass types are in the Kentucky's Best blend?

Kentucky's Best Grass Seed contains two varieties of Kentucky bluegrass and two varieties of perennial ryegrass.

The bluegrass delivers deep emerald color and density, while the ryegrass germinates quickly to get your lawn established faster.

How much should I water after seeding with Kentucky's Best?

After spreading Kentucky's Best Grass Seed, water the area right away and keep the seed consistently moist for 1 to 3 weeks.

Water lightly and often rather than soaking the ground. Avoid letting the seed dry out or sit in standing water while it germinates.

Love this seed.

This was the first time using this seed. I put it in a certain place in the yard just to see what it would do. The seed just took off I was impressed with how fast it germinated. I can't wait until next year to see the full results.

Grows quickly

I used the seed to fill in patches and a couple of large bare spots in our yard. This was the first time I have reseeded a yard and it was easy. Went over the spots with a hand cultivator, spread the seeds with the Sunday handheld spreader and spread some compost over the top. It grew in a few weeks...

Fall Overseeding in Colorado

I used this to overseed the sunnier parts of my lawn this fall and it seemed to work well and fill in my thinner areas.

Great seeds and good looking grass!

The seeds took about two weeks to start sprouting and they've been growing ever since. I am very satisfied with this purchase.
