How to kill crabgrass in your lawn
The right product depends on where you are in the season, before crabgrass appears or after it's already growing.
Before crabgrass appears (early spring crabgrass prevention)
Apply Weed & Green, our lawn-safe selective herbicide. It works as a pre-emergent, stopping crabgrass before it breaks the surface without harming your grass. Apply once daily average temps have held above 50 to 55°F for a few days. You can reapply 3 to 6 weeks later for added coverage.
Once crabgrass has already germinated, Weed & Green pre-emergent is no longer effective.
After crabgrass is already growing (spring-fall crabgrass kill)
Use Weed Warrior, our non-selective herbicide. It works on contact and clears actively growing crabgrass. Spot-treat carefully. Weed Warrior will damage any desirable grass it touches, so be mindful if spraying near your desirable lawn turf.
After treatment
Fill bare spots with plugs or seed. A thick, healthy lawn is your best long-term defense. Crabgrass moves into weak spots. Take those away and you take away its opening.
