Gulf Shores, Alabama lawns average 3,218 sq ft and feature warm-season grasses like bermuda, zoysia, centipede, and St. Augustine. The sandy soil composition (64% sand, 25% silt, 10% clay) creates good drainage but may need extra attention during hot summers.
For effective lawn care in Gulf Shores:
- Soil pH: At 6.1, the slightly acidic soil works well for most warm-season grasses, but regular testing with a soil test kit helps maintain ideal conditions
- Nutrient levels: Gulf Shores lawns show moderate phosphorus (20 ppm) and potassium (49 ppm) levels that benefit from targeted fertilization
- Watering needs: The sandy soil drains quickly, so consistent watering during dry periods prevents stress
The 2.53% organic matter content is adequate but could be improved through mulching when mowing. Convenient, natural, beautiful grass
Our lawn is so green and lush, and we love having a more natural option to put on it. We do have to spread a granular pre-emergent for weed control, but living in the South, that is just a necessity--our weeds would take over if we didn't. We love Sunday and tell everyone how easy it is!
