How to use

For overseeding or thin lawns: Mow short and rake away debris first. Spread at 2 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.

For bare spots or new lawns: Rake to loosen the top inch of soil before seeding. Spread at 8 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.

Water lightly once or twice daily until germination. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Seed when soil temps are between 55-75°F. Limit traffic for 3 to 4 weeks. Wait until new grass has been mowed at least once before fertilizing.

When is the best time to seed with Fescue Rescue?

Early fall is the sweet spot, typically late August through October when soil temps are between 55 and 75°F. Spring works too but fall gives roots more time to establish before summer heat. You can also frost seed in winter when temps hold consistently below 40°F.

How many pounds of fescue seed do I need per 1,000 square feet?

For overseeding or maintaining an existing lawn, use 2 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. For bare spots, heavy repair, or starting from scratch, use 8 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. One 5 lb bag covers 2,500 sq. ft. at the overseeding rate or 625 sq. ft. at the heavy repair rate.

How do I choose between cool-season and warm-season grass seed?

Cool-season grasses like tall fescue thrive in northern and transitional regions where summers are warm but winters are cold. They grow best in spring and fall. Warm-season grasses like bermuda and zoysia are for southern regions where summers are hot and winters are mild. If you're in the north or transition zone, Fescue Rescue is the right call.

Why isn't my seed germinating?

The two most common reasons are inconsistent watering and the wrong seeding rate. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged, watering lightly once or twice a day. Over-application crowds the seed and prevents germination. Soil temps below 50°F or above 80°F will also slow things down significantly.

What is the difference between Fescue Rescue and Pet Lawn Grass Seed?

Both are cool-season tall fescue blends for northern and transitional regions. Fescue Rescue is built for drought, disease, and general lawn recovery from stress and wear. Pet Lawn Grass Seed is specifically tested for urine resistance and dog spot recovery. If your lawn issues are pet-related, Pet Lawn is the right call.

How long does Fescue Rescue take to germinate?

Expect to see sprouts in 6 to 12 days under good conditions. Keep soil consistently moist throughout. If it dries out even for a few days germination can stall. Early sprouts may look a little scraggly before they fill in, that's normal.

Tons of green growth

This seed blend combined with Sunday’s fertilizers worked awesome for our struggling Idaho lawn. I seeded 3 times over the course of about 2 months and we had tons of growth and it’s continuing to fill in bare spots months later.

High expectations, no results

Filled in this hole from a concrete block with fresh topsoil. Generously seeded and carefully raked in, then watered every day for 4 weeks. Nothing going on. Pretty disappointed.

We're sorry to hear that this was your experience with Sunday! There are a few factors that may have affected your seed germination. 1. Applying the correct rate (or amount of seed). By over-application, we're referring to applying outside of our labeled and recommended seed rates. Over-application of seed can result in too much seed in a single area and cause it to not germinate successfully. 2. Watering correctly is critical. The soil needs to be moist, but not saturated, until grass has germinated. If it gets dried out even for a few days, it may not grow from the soil. 3. Germination rates should be about 7-21 days, but can be more if conditions are not quite right.

Added more weeds to my lawn

My front and back yards are not connected. I have cement and space between each. My back yard had a small amount of thistle in one area, for many years, has NEVER spread before. I used to just mow over them and they would grow back slow. I had dandelions from my front yard neighbor. I purchased the ...

We're sorry to hear that your experience was not as expected! If you've recently raked or tilled your area in order to spread new seed, you may have disturbed a seed bank in your lawn, which can lead to new weeds that you haven't experience before. It sounds like the thistle in your lawn was well-established; these mature weeds can require multiple applications of weed control. For best results, apply in direct heat and sunlight, and try removing any seed heads and splitting the stems of mature weeds before applying weed control.

Little to no germination

I applied several bags of this a couple of weeks ago for a Spring seeding and there were many bare spots I was trying to fill in. After weeks of watering and rain, and proper temperatures, I see very little germination in some places, and none in others. Hard to tell how it's worked on the rest of t...
