Ingredients

Premium perennial ryegrass seed (2 varieties): Fast-establishing grass seed that fills in bare and thin areas quickly. Delivers a thick, durable lawn with strong disease and insect resistance.

Fine fescue grass seed: Shade-tolerant seed that thrives where other grasses struggle. Adds texture and stays green with less water.

1-0-0 NPK slow-release fertilizer: Feeds new seedlings steadily over time so roots get established without burning. No guesswork on when to fertilize.

Recycled paper mulch: Holds moisture around seeds to improve germination and keeps seed in place. Made from recycled paper, not dyed wood chips.

How to use

Best results come from seeding in spring or fall when temperatures are consistently between 55 and 75 degrees F.

  1. Prep the soil. Clear away dead grass, leaves, and debris. Break up any exposed or compacted soil so seed can make direct contact with dirt. Good seed-to-soil contact is essential to germination.
  2. Spread at the right rate. For bare areas, use at least 1 cup per 1 sq ft. For thinning lawns, use about 1 pound per 15 sq ft. Spread evenly by hand or with a small spreader.
  3. Water consistently. Water lightly 1 to 2 times daily, early morning and evening, until grass reaches about 2 inches tall. Keep foot traffic off the area until the new grass is established.

How long does Bare Repair Sun + Shade take to grow new grass?

Bare Repair Sun + Shade grows new grass in as little as 14 days. The perennial ryegrass and fine fescue seed blend is designed for fast germination when you keep the area consistently moist.

Water lightly 1 to 2 times daily until grass reaches about 2 inches tall for the best results.

Do I need to add soil on top of Bare Repair after spreading it?

No. Bare Repair Sun + Shade already includes recycled paper mulch that holds moisture around the seed and keeps it in place. Just spread it directly on the bare spot after prepping the soil.

The key is good seed-to-soil contact. Clear debris and break up compacted soil before applying.

When is the best time of year to use Bare Repair Sun + Shade?

Bare Repair Sun + Shade works best in spring and fall when temperatures consistently range between 55 and 75 degrees F. These conditions give the cool season seed blend the best chance to germinate and establish strong roots.

You can apply it throughout the growing season as needed.

Can I mow the rest of my lawn while Bare Repair is growing?

Yes, you can mow the rest of your lawn while Bare Repair Sun + Shade is establishing. Just avoid mowing directly over the seeded area until the new grass reaches about 2 inches tall.

Keep foot traffic off the patched spots until the new grass is fully established.

Should I apply Bare Repair before or after my Sunday fertilizer?

You can apply Bare Repair Sun + Shade and Sunday fertilizer in either order. The included 1-0-0 slow-release fertilizer gives new seedlings the nitrogen they need to get started.

Since some grass types come up quickly, having fertilizer down first can help early growth.

How much Bare Repair do I need for my bare spots?

For bare areas, use about 1 cup of Bare Repair Sun + Shade per 1 sq ft. For thinning lawns, use about 1 pound per 15 sq ft. One 4.5 lb bag covers up to 65 sq ft of lawn area.

Spread evenly by hand or with a small spreader for the most consistent coverage.
