Best practices to apply Sunday lawn fertilizer liquid and granular

Sunday liquid and granular fertilizers both work best when temps are between 50 and 85 degrees and the grass is actively growing. The details depend on what formula you're holding.

For liquid lawn fertilizer

Water your lawn a few hours before you spray. If it's already moist, you're good.
Skip it if rain is coming within 24 hours. Wet grass and liquid fertilizer do not get along.
Early morning application is the sweet spot. Evening works if mornings aren't doable.
Only spray on grass that's actively growing. Stressed or dormant?- Wait!
You can apply right after mowing. Just don't mow for at least two days after.
Let it dry before anyone (or any pet) heads back out. That takes 4 to 24 hours depending on sun and heat. Don't water right after. In high heat, water the next day.
Apply every 4 to 6 weeks while grass is growing, or follow your custom lawn plan.
Follow the liquid lawn fertilizer instructions closely. More product does not mean better results.

For granular lawn fertilizer

Your lawn needs to be well-watered but not currently wet. Water a few hours ahead if it's dry.
Morning dew on the grass? Wait for it to dry before spreading.
Early morning is ideal to apply. Evening is fine too.
After spreading, water your lawn thoroughly to work the granules into the soil. That's how nutrients reach the roots and how you avoid burn.
Keep kids and pets off the lawn until the granules are fully watered in or no longer visible on the grass.
Don't mow for at least two days after applying but applying granula fertilizer right after a mow is totally fine.
In high heat, water again the day of or day after to avoid burn risk.

Follow the granular lawn fertilizer instructions closely. Overapplying won't speed things up.
