How to apply Seed + Feed
Mow
Mow a little lower than normal. Remove clippings to help seeds reach the soil.
Prep
Prep any thinning or bare areas by lightly raking or scratching up the soil surface.
Set
Set your spreader to the lowest setting to start. You can slowly increase the flow to a level that provides proper coverage as you go.
If you’re using a Sunday handheld spreader, set your spreader on the #2 setting. Otherwise, use our spreader settings chart for spreader-specific recommendations.
Fill
Fill spreader to the top.
Spread
Apply in straight lines evenly across your lawn. Refill spreader as needed.
Push spreaders: Space wheel tracks about 3–4 feet apart to ensure full coverage.
Water
Water in gently and evenly. Continue watering 1–2 times daily for 3 weeks until grass is established (about 2”). Once new grass is established, reduce watering to your normal schedule.
Sunday Tip:
Sweep up any fertilizer that has fallen onto non-growing areas such as sidewalks, driveways, or drains. You can reuse it next time!

When should I use Seed + Feed?
The optimal time to apply Seed + Feed products will be during optimal temperatures for cool- or warm-season grass seed germination.
- For northern and transitional zones: When temperatures range between 60–75º F usually during spring and fall.
- For southern zones: When temperatures range between 70–90º F, usually late spring to mid summer.
Sunday Tip:
Seed + Feed is appropriate for all of the most commonly grown residential turfgrasses. However, we don’t recommend applying to centipedegrass more than 2x per year, and it’s not formulated for golf course favorites such as colonial bentgrass or creeping bentgrass.
How do I use Seed + Feed with other Sunday products? Why should I apply in this order?
Ideally, you’ll want to treat as many weeds as possible before applying Seed + Feed. Why? Otherwise, when the granular fertilizer and seed are watered in, you’ll be feeding and watering the weeds as well. The lawn doesn’t need to be perfect to fertilize, but the fewer weeds the better.
We do not recommend utilizing both Seed + Feed and other fertilizers at the same time. Applying two types of fertilizer together can cause overfertilization or damage to actively growing grass. If you are switching between Seed + Feed and other fertilizers, wait at least 6 weeks between applications.
What if I apply out of order?
If you applied Seed + Feed first, water it in and wait 24 hours before applying weed control. Regardless of the order applied, we recommend allowing at least 24 hours between watering in Seed + Feed products before doing anything else to the lawn—this ensures even application.
How should I store Seed + Feed
Store this product sitting upright with the bag sealed tightly. Avoid storing in areas where kids, pets, or pests could potentially access the product. Avoid storing in areas with excessive moisture.
