Fix bare spots with one bag of everything

Bare Repair Sun and Shade is a 3 in 1 lawn patch repair mix with grass seed, slow release fertilizer, and recycled paper mulch. Spread it on bare spots or thin areas, water, and see new growth in 14 days. Works in sun or shade on any cool season lawn. Pair with Lawn Starter Liquid Fertilizer for a head start, or build a Custom Lawn Plan for the whole yard.

What makes Bare Repair Sun and Shade different

  • Fills in bare spots in as little as 14 days
  • 99.9% weed free seed, A-LIST approved
  • Just spread, water, and walk away
  • Works in sun, shade, and everything between
  • Drought tolerant and disease resistant seed
  • Eco-friendly bags with 70% less plastic

Ingredients

Premium perennial ryegrass seed (2 varieties) and fine fescue grass seed selected for fast germination, drought tolerance, and disease resistance.

1-0-0 NPK slow release nitrogen fertilizer that feeds new grass steadily over time instead of all at once, giving seedlings consistent nutrition as they establish.

Recycled paper mulch that holds moisture around seeds and keeps them in place, so you get better contact with soil and less watering guesswork.

How to use

Best applied in spring and fall when temps stay between 55 and 75 degrees F.

  1. Prep your soil. Remove debris and break up exposed soil in bare areas. Good seed-to-soil contact is the key to getting things growing.
  2. Spread Bare Repair at the recommended rate. Use 1 cup per 1 sq ft for bare spots, or 1 pound per 15 sq ft for thinning areas.
  3. Water seeded areas 1 to 2 times daily, early morning and evening, until grass is about 2 inches tall. Limit traffic on newly patched spots until new grass is established.

How long does Bare Repair Sun and Shade take to grow?

Bare Repair Sun and Shade germinates in 14 days or less. Water seeded areas 1 to 2 times daily, early morning and evening, until new grass reaches about 2 inches tall. Keep foot traffic off freshly patched spots while grass gets established.

How much Bare Repair do I need for my lawn?

Bare Repair Sun and Shade covers up to 65 sq ft per bag, or 130 sq ft with the 2 pack. For bare spots, use about 1 cup per 1 sq ft. For thinning areas, spread 1 pound per 15 sq ft.

If you have more ground to cover, check out Shade Select grass seed for larger seeding projects.

Should I cover Bare Repair with soil after applying?

No extra soil needed. Bare Repair Sun and Shade includes recycled paper mulch that holds moisture around the seeds. Just spread the mix, press it down lightly, and water. The built in mulch does the heavy lifting so you can skip the extra step.

Can I apply Bare Repair and fertilizer at the same time?

Yes. Bare Repair Sun and Shade already contains a 1-0-0 NPK slow release nitrogen fertilizer, so new grass gets fed right from the start.

You can apply Sunday fertilizer before or after without damaging the seed. Having nutrients in the soil when grass starts sprouting helps it establish faster.

When is the best time to apply Bare Repair Sun and Shade?

Bare Repair Sun and Shade works best in spring and fall when temperatures consistently stay between 55 and 75 degrees F. That range gives cool season grass seed the conditions it needs to germinate and root in.

Seeding and patching should be part of your regular lawn routine each growing season.

Will Bare Repair work on completely bare dirt?

Yes. Bare Repair Sun and Shade is designed for bare dirt. Remove debris, break up the soil for good seed-to-soil contact, and spread at 1 cup per 1 sq ft.

The recycled paper mulch holds moisture to improve growth even on exposed ground.

Patch me please

My lawn has patches due to grass clippings being left on a freshly manicured lawn for a few days in the summer. I was disappointed and had to get bare repair to the rescue. After watering for a few days, I immediately noticed growth filling in. Due to the inconsistency of the weather, there has been...

Maybe I Got a BAd Batch?

I used this product this spring on a bunch of bare spots throughout my lawn. I watered at least once a day, sometimes twice, but never saw any results. I bought another bag of seed from a big box store and those sprang up in about 10 days. Maybe I just got a dead batch.

We're sorry to hear that this was your experience with Sunday! There are a few factors that may have affected your seed germination. 1. Applying the correct rate (or amount of seed). By over-application, we're referring to applying outside of our labeled and recommended seed rates. Over-application of seed can result in too much seed in a single area and cause it to not germinate successfully. 2. Watering correctly is critical. The soil needs to be moist, but not saturated, until grass has germinated. If it gets dried out even for a few days, it may not grow from the soil. 3. Germination rates should be about 7-21 days, but can be more if conditions are not quite right.

Didn't Do Anything

The same "bare repair" product that i applied several weeks ago, is the same product that is just sitting on the ground. Absolutely 0 germination. Regular watering each day to ensure instructions were followed, and all you see is blue mulch. Very disappointed.

Patch filler

This product worked really well to address some bare patches in my lawn from previous pet spots and other damage. Very easy to apply and maintain. After a couple weeks it had filled in nicely and came along even more with the use of other Sunday products.

bad luck

It is likely that I ended up with a poor-quality batch. I purchased it in June and applied it to 4 or 6 different locations in my yard. Despite watering it twice daily, it did not successfully germinate. The customer service was pleasant and provided a refund.

Thank you for reaching out! We're sorry to hear that your experience was not as expected. For best results, we recommend following these steps: 1. Clear area of debris and lightly break up exposed soil. 2. Shake on 1 cup per 1 sq. ft. on bare spots. 3. Spread 1 lb. per 15 sq. ft. for thin growth. 4. Gently water the seeded area 1–2x per day. 5. Continue watering until new grass is 2”. Additionally, seed that's laid in the fall season may not show much germination until the spring. You can learn more about fall overseeding at getsunday.com.
