Sunday grass seed collection

Sunday Grass Seed

Seeding is one of the best practices to introduce to your lawn care routine. The result is only further enhanced when you opt for higher quality seed. By introducing premium varieties like Sunday Grass Seed, you can build a lawn more resilient to stress, traffic, and bare or thinning areas.

It all starts with good seed

Grass is really just an irrigated crop that we grow on our lawns. Do you know what grows better crops? You guessed it: high-quality seeds. That’s why at Sunday we hand-select premium seed varieties for our seed mixes. Sunday grass seed offers:

  • Improved attributes like disease and drought resistance
  • Higher tolerance to traffic and pet waste
  • A-LIST approved, meaning seed varieties are cultivated to maintain lawns with less water, less pesticide, and less fertilizer applications

Our seed is actually cultivated to help you grow a more self-sustaining lawn.

How to choose grass seed

It is important to choose the right seed for your lawn. When it comes to selecting grass seeds for your lawn, there are a few questions you have to ask first.

What type of grass can I grow?

The most important part of deciding which type or types of seed to grow is understanding what you can grow. If you’re located in the northern half of the country, you’re going to be growing cool-season grass. If you’re in the southern half, you’ll be growing warm-season grass.

Can I seed my grass type?

Warm-season lawns

Many warm-season grasses grow vegetatively via stolons or rhizomes and self-seed, so they require less additional application of seed. However, there are warm-season varieties like bermudagrass that do need to be seeded regularly.

Cool-season lawns

In almost every mowed cool-season lawn, you must continue to seed to maintain good turf density. The best part about a cool-season lawn is that you can mix a variety of different species into your lawn to help tolerate different conditions like shade, traffic, drought, and moisture.

Sunday Tip:

If you’re reseeding your warm-season lawn, do not blend warm-season grasses. Warm-season lawns grow best with a single grass type.

What type of seeding does my lawn need?

Sunday’s premium grass seeds are suitable for the three main seeding methods. But for reference, here’s a breakdown of the three seeding methods and the Sunday seed products best suited for each practice.

  • New Lawn
    • Reason to seed: starting a lawn from scratch, new construction
    • Recommended product: Sunday Grass Seed
  • Overseeding
    • Reason to seed: thickening up the existing lawn, promote healthy turf, and introduce new or better grass types
    • Recommended product: Sunday Grass Seed
  • Patching
    • Reason to seed: newly weeded areas, pet spots, light damage
    • Recommended product: Sunday Bare Repair, Sunday Grass Seed

What condition is my lawn in?

Evaluating the condition of your current lawn is the only way to know the best seed to add to it. Does your lawn see high traffic from kids and pets? Do you live in a hot, arid climate prone to heat stress and drought? Do you love the trees in your yard but your grass struggles to grow beneath them? There’s a grass type to help solve that issue.
